How it works

Up and writing in four steps

1Connect your Docs, or write here

Sign in with Google and Inkling links to the Docs you already write in. No Google? Write right here in Inkling. Nothing to import, no new editor to learn.

2Inkling organizes & recaps

Every story lands on your shelf with its own cover, and a “Previously…” recap, so you always know where you left off.

3Storyboard, characters & maps

Sketch the whole story on a mind-map canvas, build your characters, and draw living maps of your world. Every favorite tool, right beside your writing.

4Pick up and write

Open whichever story calls to you, or let Inkling choose. Tap “I have 15 min” or “Surprise me” and it drops you straight in. Your words stay in Google Docs, or right here.

The magic moment

Never lose the thread again.

Come back after a week, or a month, and Inkling hands you a one-paragraph “Previously…” of your own words. You’re back inside the story in seconds, not paragraphs. No rereading, no “where was I,” no lost momentum.

  • A recap waiting every time you open a story
  • Built from your prose, never invented
  • Turn it off and Inkling is a pure organizer

The lighthouse keeper finally read the last letter, and learned the comet wouldn’t pass again in her lifetime. She left the lamp burning anyway, and walked down to the water.

A note from the founder

I built Inkling for my wife, who is dealing with burnout from her corporate job. She is an incredible writer and can paint a picture or drop you into a scene like some of the best authors I’ve read. Truly, she’s the most talented writer I know, but she never gets to write anything meaningful in her professional life and finds a lot of joy in writing on weekends or late at night to take her mind off the 100 tasks work has stacked up. After watching her write in notebooks, sometimes on her laptop and other times in old-school folders she’s had, I asked how she felt about putting everything in one place.

What began as a project between my wife and me turned into something so much bigger that I wanted to share it with other hobby writers, authors, or regular Joes trying to find a creative outlet that wasn’t social media. Fair warning: I’m a romantasy nerd to my core, so Inkling might lean a little swoony and a little dragon-filled. Every genre is just as welcome, though, from cozy mystery to memoir to hard sci-fi. Yes, there is AI here, but trust me, I’ve heard it from my wife loud and clear: AI is never to write your stories. Only to aid your process. So, go write, have fun, and write us if you can think of a way to make this bigger and better. My goal is to help you. Help you unwind. Help you release from the social media habit and be creative in a world full of noise. Get lost in Inkling with us.

InklingThe promise

A generator that never writes your story.

This is the line we won’t cross. Recaps summarize your words. Covers are art, not text. Switch the generator off entirely and Inkling is simply the best place to keep all your writing together. The sentences are always, only, yours.

Recaps = your words Covers = art, not prose Off switch = pure organizer

Questions, answered

Do I have to move my writing?

No. You keep writing in your own Google Docs. Inkling sits on top and keeps everything organized, recapped, and beautiful. You can also just write inside Inkling if you’d rather, no Google needed.

Does anything write for me?

Never your prose. The generator only helps you remember and decorate: recaps of your own words, cover art, maps. It never writes a sentence of your story, and the character arcs are woven from your own choices, not generated. You can turn the generator off entirely.

What happens after my free week?

You get 14 days with everything unlocked, no card to start. When it ends, subscribe to keep writing, or don’t, and your stories, covers, and characters simply go read-only. Nothing is ever deleted. Your work is always safe.

Does it work on my phone and computer?

Yes. Inkling installs as an app on your phone and lives in your dock on desktop, synced everywhere you write.

Is my work private?

Yes. Your stories are yours. When you invite a reader, they see only the one story you shared, nothing else on your desk.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes, plans are month to month and you can cancel right from Setup, no hoops. Your writing lives in your Google Docs regardless, so you can leave whenever you like, and anything kept in Inkling stays safe and read-only.

Your next story is waiting.

Bring the dozen you’ve already started. Inkling will keep them all in one place.
