So what does the "generator" actually do?

Inkling does have assistive features, and we call them the generator, not because we're hiding anything, but because they're honest about their job. The generator helps you remember (a "Previously..." recap woven from your own words, so you can pick a story back up, and a list of the cast and places in a draft). The tools that organize your book, a storyboard, a character builder, maps of your world, are yours to use by hand. Memory and structure. Never your prose.

Why this matters for real writers

If you write because you love the craft, a tool that writes for you isn't help, it's replacement.
