Privacy Policy

Inkling brings all your favorite writing tools into one place to keep your stories organized and beautiful, with an optional connection to Google Docs. This policy explains what we collect and how we use it. Questions any time: hello@inkling.digital.

What we collect

Your account. When you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address to create your private library. If you sign in with an emailed link instead, we receive your email address.
Your writing. The stories, projects, recaps, ideas, cover art, and maps you create in Inkling, stored in our database so they sync across your devices.
Billing. If you subscribe, our payment processor handles your card. We receive your plan, payment status and billing email, never your full card number.
Basic usage. Which pages are visited, the site that sent a visitor (the host name only), the type of device, and simple events in the app such as signing up or setting a goal, so we can see what helps writers. We do not use advertising cookies.
Google Docs. Inkling creates Google Docs for you, and can open Docs you explicitly choose with the Google file picker. We request only the narrow drive.file permission, so Inkling can only ever access the specific files you create with it or pick, never the rest of your Google Drive.

How we use it

To run the app: save your work, sync it across devices, and show you where you left off.
Email. To send the emails you would expect: sign-in links, a welcome, reminders for goals you set, notes about your trial or plan, and occasional news, which you can unsubscribe from at any time.
Generator features (assistive, optional): to write a “Previously…” recap, list the cast and places in a story, read a story for place names when you build a map from it, turn dictation into text, generate cover art or art from your prompt, or draw a face for a made-up Muse character, the relevant text, audio or prompt is sent to our generator provider, OpenAI. While the generator is on, recaps refresh on their own as you write. The generator never writes your prose and is not used to train models on your stories, and you can switch it off in Setup. Muse never reads your stories: its sparks come from Inkling’s own lists. The plain-language version, with every detail: Your words stay yours.

Your Google user data

Inkling’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We request the narrow drive.file scope only, and we never read, store, or share the contents of files you don’t open with Inkling.

Who we share it with

We never sell your data. We use a few trusted providers to operate the service: Supabase (database & authentication), Vercel (hosting), OpenAI (generator features), Google (Docs, and Gmail for sending our emails), Stripe (payments), and Klaviyo (email). Each only processes what’s needed to provide their part of the service.

Your choices

You can disconnect Google any time from Inkling’s Setup page. A deleted story stays in Recently deleted for 30 days so you can restore it, then it is removed. To delete your account and its data, email hello@inkling.digital and we’ll remove it. You can unsubscribe from our emails with the link in any of them.

Changes

We’ll update this page if our practices change and revise the date above. Inkling is in active beta, so the product evolves quickly, so this policy will keep pace.
